Fire & Smoke Rated Curtain System Applications: Atriums

Building atriums create a unique obstacle when it comes to fire safety. They are very aesthetically pleasing, but large open spaces require extra attention to fulfill all fire safety building codes. However, through the implementation of a fire & smoke rated curtain system, you can easily create an effective fire safety system without compromising on design and appearance.

Atriums that are more than 3 stories in height typically default to smoke exhaust systems which can be outrageously expensive. However, by adding smoke curtains that deploy out of nearly invisible openings in ceilings and wall you can easily cut costs. Not only do automatically deployed fire curtains supplement a smoke exhaust system but curtains are typically much less expensive to install and maintain over the life of the building.

Furthermore, horizontally deployed smoke curtains can create floor to floor separation in the event of a fire. This allows architects to leave all floors open to the atrium, but have them easily cordoned off during an emergency.
