UL 10D: The New Standard for Fire Protection

At the beginning of 2014, UL 10D became a new standard for testing fire curtain assemblies. These updated requirements cover the evaluation of protective fire curtain assemblies that provide supplemental, passive fire protection.

This new standard will measure performance ratings based on fire exposure. UL 10D serves to determine the suitability of certain fire curtains for use in locations where building codes require fire protection for specified durations.

Unfortunately, testing cannot accurately represent all possible emergency conditions. In reality, fire conditions can be drastically different based on ventilation, building size, fire protection configuration and other variables. However, UL 10D does use standard fire exposure to achieve specified temperatures over a certain time period.
