Theaters and stages present an interesting dilemma when it comes to smoke and fire protection. Not only are they one large space, but they are mean to house a large volume of people in a fairly confined area.
Most theaters utilize a system of drapes and curtains for dramatic effect and to separate the stage from the crowd as well as the stage from back stage. Fire-rated proscenium curtains can be integrated into this system in order to provide protection along with drama.
When determining the smoke and fire control needs of a theater it is important to remember the lobby/atrium as well. However, atriums do allow for more flexibility when it comes to smoke control systems.
