The root of a convention center is usually just one giant room. However, that room can take many shapes depending on the event through the use of moveable walls. When creating a system for smoke and fire control for a convention center it is imperative you consider the most extreme situation.
Due to the large, open nature of the main floor smoke control will be a necessity to allow for safe egress from the building. Depending on the requirement, smoke & fire curtains can be installed in along corridors, around stairs, escalators, and atrium spaces, and at elevator lobbies to try to compartmentalize as much as possible. Considering how large most convention centers are, smoke control is a wise choice to remove smoke and allow patrons to egress.
