Product Spotlight: Model 400

The M400 is available in a variety of sizes and offers more installation options than its sibling, the M200. Fire protection engineers and architects who want to maximize space in elevator lobbies and maintain code-compliant smoke and fire containment should consider combining the M400 with the fire-rated doors already present on most elevators.

In combination with elevator doors, smoke curtains create a barrier that limits the movement of smoke and flame through a building. This provides the people inside the building with more time for egress during an emergency. These curtains are mounted inside the ceiling, and unlike the M200, they do not require the installation of ferrous metal guide rails on either side of the elevator door.

The lack of rails makes the curtains practically invisible before deployment.  M400 curtains are integrated into a building's main electrical system and linked to the existing smoke detectors. When the power to the curtain is cut for a set amount of time or the smoke detectors are triggered, the curtain deploys vertically and forms a seal against the elevator doors. This prevents smoke and fire from entering the elevator shaft and leaping between floors, but the M400 also has a provision for individuals who may still be inside the elevator system when the curtains deploy.

Either side of the curtain has a retraction button that returns the curtain to its undeployed state. Once people are free of the elevator, the curtain can be redeployed to provide further protection. With Smoke Guard's unique transparent curtain material, it's easy for emergency personnel and people inside the building to make intelligent decisions about opening and closing the curtains. Whether you are building a new structure or bringing an older building up to code, consider the efficient and attractive M400 Smoke Curtain.
