The Advantages of Deployable Fire Curtains

Flexible fire and smoke curtains offer a variety of advantages over a stand-alone, complex, smoke exhaust system. Deployable fire and smoke curtains provide effective protection around elevators as well as integrate seamlessly into atrium design. As an added bonus, they do so at reduced costs.

Fire curtains compartmentalize smoke and fire before it can spread throughout a structure. Their lightweight construction typically does not require structural reinforcement during installation. Because of this fact, a fire curtain rarely impedes on the design of a building or atrium.

As a passive smoke management system, fire curtains use less energy than a full smoke exhaust system. If a more active smoke management system is required due to building codes, however, fire curtains can be used to subdivide space served by a mechanical smoke exhaust system. Through a properly designed smoke control system, smoke  and fire-rated curtains can work in conjunction with other safety elements of the building.
