May: National Building Safety Month

Did you know May is National Building Safety Month? If it is safety that is of a concern, smoke and fire protection should be a primary focus. The International Code Council is encouraging citizens, government agencies, businesses, non-profits and other interested groups to join in activities that raise awareness about building safety.

We continue to spread the word about smoke and fire protection. In the event of a fire emergency, smoke can easily migrate from floor to floor using stairwells or elevator shafts as a sort of chimney. With proper protection in place, smoke can be contained within a certain area and all for patrons to egress and emergency personnel to tackle the situation in a strategic manner.

While this is something, all building owners need to consider every month of the year, take some time this month to determine if your building could use a better smoke management system. If you are relying on a classic fire door, your system may not be as effective as you think. Give us a call and we can help find a solution that fits your needs.
