M4000

The Smoke Guard Model 4000 Perimeter (M4000) is a code-compliant fire + smoke-rated textile curtain assembly which functions as a vertically-deploying barrier to prevent transmission of smoke and flames, or to provide a reservoir for smoke on the upper floors of an atrium or other open space. This perimeter curtain can be an effective complement to existing mechanical smoke and fire containment systems or additional fire curtains. The M4000 features a pleated, fire + smoke-rated textile curtain stored in a steel housing, typically installed above a finished ceiling, and deployed by an alarm signal from the local smoke detector or from a fire control panel.

The curtain system may be configured in a closed, box-like, condition or in a multi-faceted open-ended configuration with or without side guides, and it does not require corner support columns or posts. The curtain panel angles may vary from 30° to 150°, and the curtain assembly can be equipped with an optional obstruction sensor to detect impediments to the deployment. The M4000 comes in a standard galvanized finish, with powder coat options available in any RAL color format.

Technical Details

  • Codes and Standards

M4000 fulfills IBC requirements to provide an opening protective where these assemblies are permitted as passive barriers in smoke control systems. This fire + smoke-rated curtain system can serve as an opening protective in applications such as an atrium, stairwell and escalator construction, and more.

  • Clear Opening Sizes

Protects openings up to 15'-0” in drop height and in custom widths up to 200'-0" linear feet.

  • Housing Dimensions

    9”H x 19 3⁄8"D (230mmH x 490mmD)

  • System Description

The M4000 has a pleated fire + smoke-rated textile curtain that is stored in headbox, typically installed above a finished ceiling.

  • Electrical Control and Emergency Power Source

The curtain is deployed by an alarm signal from the local smoke detector or from a fire control panel. Electrical power requirement is 120/240VAC, and the system is equipped with a 24VDC battery back-up that is maintained by the electronic controls. When required, the system can also be connected to building standby power. The controls include a universal power supply that can be adapted to international electrical requirements.

  • Fail-Safe Features

M4000 is a gravity fail-safe system - upon total loss of electrical power (including battery power) the curtain will fully deploy to the floor. The control unit monitors the state of curtain deployment, and it features both visual and audible fault-reporting to indicate when a corrective action is required.

  • Optional Egress Buttons

Wall-mounted egress push-plate buttons (up to 4) may be installed on either or both sides of the curtain system to offer electronically-enabled egress for occupants or first responders. If the system is in alarm state when an egress button is depressed, the curtain will retract to allow passage, then redeploy after a brief pause. The curtain will automatically retract to the ready position when the alarm clears.

  • Optional Obstruction-Sensors

Sensors may be added which span the width of each bottom bar to detect any obstructions during deployment. This ensures the safety and effectiveness of the system to remain operational in the event that obstructions are present.
