After a problematic experience with a smoke control system in a library project on campus, the University of Nevada Reno team looked to their design/build team of H+K and Core Construction to come up with a better solution on the airy open Pennington Student Achievement Center. After collaborating with Arup and Smoke Guard professionals, the solution of 7 horizontal curtains enabled the university to avoid smoke evacuation systems altogether and preserve the open design concept.
